Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 5, 2026 Last Updated: May 5, 2026 App Name: Lectern Developer: Lectern Music Contact: cellodev@lecternmusic.com
Overview
Lectern is a digital sheet music reader for Android and iOS. We respect your privacy and are committed to transparency about what data we collect and why.
This policy applies to all versions of Lectern distributed via Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Data We Collect
Analytics Data (opt-in for EEA/UK/BR/KR; opt-out elsewhere)
When analytics is enabled, Lectern collects:
- Anonymous usage events: Which features are used (e.g. PDF import, setlist creation, annotation tools), error events, and app lifecycle events.
- Device metadata: Country (derived from locale), device model, OS version, app version.
- App instance ID: A randomly generated identifier assigned to the app installation. This ID is not linked to your identity, device advertising ID, or any account.
Crash Reports (opt-in for EEA/UK/BR/KR; opt-out elsewhere)
When crash reporting is enabled, Lectern collects:
- Stack traces and crash metadata to help diagnose and fix bugs.
- Device model, OS version, and app version at the time of the crash.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your PDF files, file names, or file contents
- Annotations, drawings, or text notes
- Library organization (setlists, labels, metadata you assign to scores)
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data (GPS, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth-based)
- Contacts, photos, or other device data
- Camera images: the optional face-gesture page turning reads the front camera on the device only, keeps no frames and sends nothing anywhere (see below)
- Advertising identifiers
There are no user accounts in Lectern. We do not collect or store any personally identifiable information.
Camera (Face Gestures)
Lectern can turn pages when you turn your head or open your mouth. This is off by default. When you turn it on, the front camera runs only while a score is open and you are reading — not while annotating, and not in the rest of the app — or while the “Test gestures” view in Settings is open. Each camera frame is analysed on the device by an on-device face landmark model (Google MediaPipe on Android, Apple ARKit on iOS) and then discarded. No image, video, facial geometry or identity is stored, logged or transmitted, and the camera data is used for nothing other than detecting these gestures. You can revoke the camera permission at any time in your device settings; the feature then switches itself off.
How Data Is Collected
Analytics and crash data are collected via Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC). Data is transmitted directly from the app to Google’s Firebase servers.
- Firebase Analytics: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Firebase Crashlytics: https://firebase.google.com/terms/crashlytics
No data is collected until the user grants consent (in regions requiring opt-in) or until the app launches (in opt-out regions, where collection is enabled by default).
Consent and Control
First Launch
- OPT-IN regions (EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Brazil, South Korea): A consent screen is shown on first launch. No data is collected until you explicitly accept.
- OPT-OUT regions (all other countries): Analytics and crash reporting are enabled by default. You can disable them at any time.
Ongoing Control
You can enable or disable analytics and crash reporting at any time via Settings > Privacy.
Data Deletion
You can delete all local analytics data and reset your app instance ID from Settings > Privacy > Delete my data.
To request server-side deletion of analytics data associated with your app instance ID, email cellodev@lecternmusic.com with the instance ID shown after deletion (see Delete my data). We will process your request within 30 days.
Data Retention
- Firebase Analytics retains event data for 14 months by default (Google’s standard retention period).
- Firebase Crashlytics retains crash data for 90 days.
- Upon receiving a deletion request, we will delete or anonymize associated data within 30 days.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data collected via Firebase is processed by Google LLC under their data processing terms. Google does not use Firebase Analytics data for ad personalization unless you have separately opted in to Google’s ad personalization (which Lectern does not trigger).
Children’s Privacy
Lectern does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not contain age-gated content and does not target children.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Firebase infrastructure provides encryption at rest. We follow standard security practices for mobile application development.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be noted with an updated “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Region-Specific Rights
European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, Switzerland
Under GDPR/UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing
- Data portability
Since Lectern collects only anonymous, non-personally-identifiable data and does not maintain user accounts, most of these rights are exercised through the in-app privacy controls and the deletion mechanism described above.
Brazil (LGPD)
Under Brazil’s Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados, you have similar rights to access, correct, and delete your data. Contact us at cellodev@lecternmusic.com.
California (CCPA)
Lectern does not sell personal information. Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, CCPA “Do Not Sell” provisions do not apply. You may still exercise your right to deletion via the in-app mechanism.
This Website
lecternmusic.com uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint visitors and stores no personal data, so the site shows no consent banner. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which logs requests to serve and protect the site.

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the EEA/UK/CH:
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): Analytics and crash reporting data is collected only after you provide explicit consent via the first-launch consent screen.
For users in opt-out regions:
- Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)): We have a legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and fixing crashes, balanced against the minimal privacy impact of anonymous, non-personally-identifiable data collection. You can opt out at any time.
